फेको मशीन (Phacoemulsification.)
Phacoemulsification, commonly referred to as “Phaco,” is an advanced surgical technique used for the treatment of cataracts. A cataract is the clouding of the natural lens of the eye, leading to blurred vision. Phacoemulsification involves the use of a specialized machine, known as the Phaco machine, which enables the surgeon to perform the procedure with high precision and minimal invasion. This method is widely preferred due to its safety, accuracy, and quick recovery time compared to traditional cataract surgery.
Phacoemulsification has revolutionized cataract surgery with its advanced technology and remarkable outcomes. The use of the Phaco machine not only ensures a safe and effective procedure but also helps patients regain their vision quickly and resume their daily activities with ease.

The Phacoemulsification Procedure
Diagnosis of Cataract:
The process begins with a comprehensive eye examination. The ophthalmologist assesses the severity and location of the cataract to determine the suitability of phacoemulsification.Anesthesia (Local):
To ensure a painless procedure, local anesthesia is administered. This numbs the eye while keeping the patient awake.Small Incision (Micro Incision):
A small incision, typically 2-3 mm, is made on the cornea. Unlike traditional surgery, this smaller incision heals faster and reduces the risk of complications.Use of the Phaco Machine:
The Phaco machine uses an ultrasonic probe that emits high-frequency sound waves. These waves break the cloudy lens into tiny fragments.Lens Removal:
The fragmented lens pieces are gently suctioned out of the eye using the same probe.Intraocular Lens (IOL) Implantation:
After the removal of the cloudy lens, an artificial lens, known as an Intraocular Lens (IOL), is implanted into the eye. This lens restores clear vision and is designed to remain in the eye permanently.
Advantages of Phacoemulsification
- Short Procedure: The surgery is quick and typically takes about 15-20 minutes.
- Small Incision: The small incision ensures faster healing and reduces the chances of infection.
- Rapid Recovery: Patients can resume their normal activities sooner compared to traditional methods.
- Improved Vision: Vision improves almost immediately after the surgery.
- Stitch-Free Surgery: No sutures are required, making the procedure minimally invasive.
Features of the Phaco Machine
- Advanced Ultrasonic Technology: The machine’s ultrasonic probe ensures precise breakdown of the cataract with minimal risk.
- Safety Mechanisms: Built-in sensors monitor the procedure to minimize complications.
- Efficiency: It ensures complete removal of the cataract and provides a smooth surgical experience for the patient.
